J. Ron Smith was born and raised in Wauchula, Florida.
He served in the United States Marine Corps before graduating from the
University of Florida in 1962. He attained his Juris Doctorate degree
from Stetson University College of Law in 1967. Thereafter, he clerked
at the Second District Court of Appeals, and served Hardee County as its
Prosecuting Attorney. Since 1970, J. Ron Smith has practiced in Lakeland
in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death and medical malpractice.
He now practices in the Sebring office of Lilly, O’Toole, & Brown.
Mr. Smith is a former President of the Florida Justice Association, having
previously served as a member of the Board of Directors, secretary and
treasurer. He is past chairman of the Trial Lawyers Section of the Florida
Bar, a sustaining member of the American Association for Justice, and
past president of the Lakeland Bar Association. Mr. Smith is an AV Rated
lawyer, the highest rating established by Martindale Hubbell, the agency
which provides attorneys’ ratings throughout the United States.
Mr. Smith lives in Highlands County with his wife, Sheila. They have two
children and four grandchildren. They are active members of St. Francis
of Assisi Episcopal Church.
