Lake City Man Killed in Tampa Auto Accident

A Tampa auto accident involving two vehicles leaves one man dead after his car collides with a Mercedes on Fowler Avenue. The incident took place at approximately 4:45 PM on Saturday afternoon, December 19, 2009.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim, Charles Deas, 44, of Lake City, was driving a 1994 Dodge Intrepid when the accident occurred. Reports indicate that he was exiting the parking lot of Winn Dixie on Fowler Avenue when he pulled into the path of a 2009 Mercedes which was heading east on Fowler Avenue.

Police report that the Mercedes struck the left side of the Dodge. The force of the impact pushed one of the cars onto the median and the other vehicle into the shoulder of the road.

Rescue workers pronounced Deas dead at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained in the two-vehicle accident.

There were two passengers traveling with Deas. Shawnee Black, 27, of Lake City was taken to Tampa General Hospital and was listed in serious condition. Donald reed, 48, of Tampa, who was sitting in the rear of the car, was rushed to University Community Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

No information was provided as to the condition of the driver of the Mercedes.

The fatal Tampa accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
