Kristel J. Skipper of Avon Park died Thursday night when she was ejected from her vehicle. She was not wearing her seat belt. The 36 year old Skipper was airlifted to the hospital after the crash. She subsequently died at the hospital. According to the Florida Highway Patrol Skipper went into the grass median on U.S. 27 near County Road 630 and then came back on to 27. Skipper's 2000 GMC sport utility then began rolling and she was ejected while not wearing her seatbelt. Lilly, O'Toole & Brown investigates hundreds of vehicle crashes every year. Usually the most severe involve people who were not wearing their seatbelt. As a safety precaution it is a must. The odds of a seatbelt helping a person in a car crash are far greater than a seat belt hurting. As we have said before, it is also the law. Always wear your seatbelt, buckle up as soon as you get in the vehicle to make it a habit that is never forgotten. Then if you are the unfortunate victim of a negligent driver you don't have to worry about getting a ticket yourself for simply being there.
