LPD OFFICER RUNS LIGHT, HITS CAR

Monday night a Lakeland Police Department Officer Matthew Anderson was on an emergency call when he struck Michelle Renelique.  A little before 11 p.m. Officer Anderson was on Massachusetts Avenue and went through the intersection with Memorial Boulevard.  According to witnesses Officer Anderson had his emergency lights on but was not using his siren as he went through the light.  The light was red for traffic traveling in the direction of Officer Anderson.  The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.  Another car, driven by Kevin King also was involved but apparently Mr. King only suffered minor injuries.  Lilly, O'Toole & Brown handles hundreds of car crashes each year and intersection crashes are some of the most common.  Intersections require even more care and observation than just driving down the street.  Be aware of your surroundings and drive defensively.  Getting to your destination safely is the first priority.
