Taking Avandia May Increase Your Risk of Heart Attack & Death

Diabetes is a common condition in America. If you are not currently suffering from diabetes, you probably know at least one person who is.

Have you ever heard of Avandia? Perhaps, you or someone you know is currently taking this popular diabetes drug. If so, there are some facts that you should be made aware of. Studies have shown a greater risk of heart attack and death among patients taking the drug. In fact, according to a review published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Avandia may increase someone’s chance of suffering these side effects by approximately 43 percent. That is staggering.

Avandia is designed to treat Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common form of diabetes that occurs when the body lacks the ability to produce enough insulin. Avandia is designed to help sensitize the body to insulin. However, the risk of heart attack and even death may increase when taking Avandia.

According to reports, as of 2007, an estimated 6 million people were taking this drug sold by GlaxoSmithKiline PLC of London to treat diabetes. These people may be at risk.

If you or someone you know has suffered serious side effects, including a heart attack, while taking Avandia, you should contact an experienced Tampa injury attorney at the Law Offices of Lilly, O’Toole & Brown at (863) 683-1111.
