Accutane May Cause Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Accutane is a medication prescribed by dermatologists to treat severe acne. It is a derivative of Vitamin A that reduces the skin’s production of oil. Accutane carries many serious side effects, including inflammatory bowel disease. Patients who have not had a prior history of intestinal disorders are still at risk of developing this medical condition. Inflammatory bowel disease is a term used to describe a group of disorders that lead to inflammation of the intestines. It is an ongoing condition that is characterized by periods of flare ups.
